==============
This is the thing, the kicker... that you will have to live with depending on what you decide.
Because there aren't any "do-overs".. you are behind the eight-ball no matter how you look at it.
1 a.) IF you DO the chemo and DON'T have a recurrence, YAY: "The chemo worked." You are a good patient.
1 b.) IF you DO the chemo, and still get a recurrence: "Oh, well. At least you tried." You are a good patient.
2 a.) IF you DON'T do the chemo, and DON'T get a recurrence, nobody is paying much attention (you have left their official care), and you may still be waiting for the other shoe to drop anyway, 3 or 5 or 10 or how many ever years down the road.
2 b.) IF you DON'T do the chemo and you DO have a recurrence, it's like you're a GOD-DAMNED IDIOT and a bad patient. "You should have done the chemo!" (regardless of whether it would have actually worked or not.. see 1 b.).
You end up "having to" do the chemo to show people you are serious about staying alive/remaining their patient (whichever they retain most important). The truth, and the actual numbers really don't matter.. it's an emotional/political/institutional thing. Without scientific findings behind it.. it is a nonsensical fetish/religion. You might as well throw a virgin into a volcano. You have to be very strong to buck it.
Best wishes on your bus ride.
